1. Introduction

Outposter ("Outposter", "we", "us", or "our") is a social-media post-scheduling tool that lets you plan, schedule, and automatically publish your LinkedIn posts from a single content calendar. Outposter is operated by Outposter LLC, a company organized under the laws of the State of Delaware, United States.

Outposter is currently in closed, invite-only beta and supports LinkedIn only. Because the product is still evolving, our features and this Privacy Policy may change over time. This policy applies to information we collect through our website, our application, and any related services that link to it (together, the "Service").

By requesting beta access, creating an account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information we receive from LinkedIn when you connect your account, and information we collect automatically as you use the Service.

Information you provide

When you request beta access, create an account, or contact us, you may give us information such as your name, email address, and any other details you choose to include in your message or profile. We use this information to evaluate and manage beta access, set up your account, and communicate with you.

LinkedIn account data via OAuth

To schedule and publish on your behalf, you connect your LinkedIn account to Outposter using LinkedIn's OAuth authorization flow. Through this connection we receive:

  • Basic LinkedIn profile information, such as your name and profile identifier.
  • The authorization tokens and permissions (scopes) you grant, which allow us to publish content to LinkedIn on your behalf.
  • The content of the posts you draft and schedule in Outposter, including text and any media you add, so we can store them and publish them at the times you choose.

We only act within the permissions you grant, and you can disconnect your LinkedIn account at any time (see "Your choices and rights" below).

Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including:

  • Usage data, such as the features you use, the posts you schedule, and how you interact with the Service.
  • Log data, such as your IP address, access times, and pages or actions requested.
  • Device and browser information, such as browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
  • Information collected through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies and similar technologies" below).

3. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, and provide the Service to you.
  • Schedule and publish your posts to LinkedIn as you direct.
  • Communicate with you about your account, beta access, updates, security notices, and support requests.
  • Improve, personalize, and develop the Service, including understanding how it is used and diagnosing technical problems.
  • Keep the Service secure, detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and other harmful activity, and enforce our terms.
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations, and protect the rights, property, and safety of Outposter, our users, and others.

4. LinkedIn and other third-party services

Outposter integrates with LinkedIn's API to publish content on your behalf. We access and use LinkedIn data only as you authorize, and only to provide the scheduling and publishing features you request. You can review and revoke Outposter's access from your LinkedIn account settings at any time.

Your use of LinkedIn itself is governed by LinkedIn's own terms of service and privacy policy, not by this policy. We encourage you to review them. Outposter is an independent product and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by LinkedIn.

We also rely on trusted third-party service providers to run the Service, including hosting and infrastructure providers, analytics providers, and email delivery providers. These providers process information on our behalf and are permitted to use it only to provide services to us, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the Service, and understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. Some cookies are essential to the operation of the Service, while others help us with analytics.

Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings, including blocking or deleting them. If you disable certain cookies, some parts of the Service may not function as intended.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. With the vendors described above who process information on our behalf to help us operate the Service.
  • Legal requirements. When we believe in good faith that disclosure is required to comply with applicable law, a legal process, or a valid governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Outposter, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business, in which case information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
  • LinkedIn. When you publish or schedule a post, we send that content to LinkedIn on your behalf as part of providing the Service.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, and comply with our legal obligations. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and why we hold it.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it. You may also ask us to delete your information, and we will do so unless we are required to retain it for legitimate business or legal reasons.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. This includes measures such as encryption in transit and access controls.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for notifying us of any suspected unauthorized use of your account.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. In general, you can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your information, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Export a copy of the information you provided to us.
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on it, without affecting processing that already occurred.
  • Disconnect your LinkedIn account from Outposter at any time, which revokes our permission to publish on your behalf.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@outposter.io. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request.

10. International users

Outposter is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to, and is not intended for, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, our practices, or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we may also provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
